Following the success of Junji Ito’s past adapted horror anthology series in 2018, he is going to release another adaptation of his popular mangas in the 90s, Uzumaki. Uzumaki manga was published in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits magazine from 1998 to 1999. The anime adaptation itself was put into development four years ago, but it went through a series of delays. However, Adult Swim who is working on the adaptation, just released a sneak peek at the finished product for the anime series at 2023’s San Diego Comic-Con. Let’s find out all about Uzumaki Anime Release Date & Much More!

What will “Uzumaki” Anime Be About?

Since the Uzumaki anime is based on the horror manga series of the same name, there seems to be a clear picture of the story already. The anime will revolve around the citizens of Kurouzu-cho who are plagued by supernatural events. The main characters that will be featured are Kirie Goshima and Shuichi Saito, as they face curses that haunt their home.

The anime will likely cover the entire story of the manga. It will feature some facial transformations and hypnotic expressions. However, the Uzumaki anime will consist of only four episodes, so changes will likely be made to the story taking into account the time constraints. This means some story rhythms might be changed or abandoned altogether.

When Can We Expect Uzumaki Anime to Hit the Screen?

Fans are still excitedly awaiting additional information, although the production house has not announced specific dates at the 2023’s San Diego Comic-Con. Thankfully earlier this week, fans got some good news from Adult Swim’s Senior Vice-President, Jason DeMarco. He recently tweeted that Uzumaki anime is confirmed to premiere later in 2023.

Uzumaki Anime Trailer

Adult Swim released the trailer and gave fans a deeper look at the anime. The new trailer shows Shuichi and Kirie walking together on the street, while Shuichi describes the strange obsession with spirals his dad has experienced.

The anime will be in full black and white, giving the original manga justice. It also showcases the creepy visuals Junji Ito is known for, bringing the same eerie atmosphere to the anime similar to the manga. Fans will be satisfied with supernatural and psychological horror experiences.
