There are currently no announcements from Netflix on which of the acclaimed book series will be adapted by Gerwig. There is no official release date either for the films as these are still in the early stages of development.
When Netflix acquired the rights to the series, they had discussed ambitions to develop the Narnia franchise. Ted Sarandos said, “The family group has fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we are excited to be their home for the foreseeable future.”
Gerwig’s Thoughts on Her Upcoming Project
As the director and writer of the upcoming “The Chronicles of Narnia” films, Greta Gerwig said that she was still terrified to work on the project. In her interview with Total Film, Gerwig revealed that she still ‘doesn’t know’ whether to work on Narnia with the same approach as Barbie or not. However, she thinks that feeling scared before starting something is always a good sign.
With Narnia, Gerwig continued to expand her portfolio of big-budget films. The director has a penchant for adapting childhood classics. She has already made her directorial debut with the Oscar-nominated Little Women, Lady Bird, and Barbie.
